Keiko Tanabe Artist Demo recap - April 21st, 2025

Keiko Tanabe gave our group a fantastic demo of her technique, process, and materials with watercolor. She embraces the concept of Wabi-sabi: a Japanese aesthetic and philosophy that embraces the beauty of imperfection, impermanence, and natural simplicity. It encourages appreciating the beauty found in things that are flawed, rustic, or weathered, rather than seeking flawless perfection.

Her brand of choice is Sennelier and her palette of colors is: Lemon yellow, Raw sienna, Queen gold, Red Orange transparent, Cadmium red, Permanent rose, Dioxazine purple, Cobalt blue, Ultramarine blue, Burnt Sienna, Thalo green, Transparent brown or neutral tint, Turquoise (opaque), Lavender (opaque), and Titanium white (opaque)

Her choice of paper is Arches cold press, and the brushes she uses are Escoda

Scroll all the way to the end for information on an upcoming show including our two last demo artists Keiko Tanabe and Geoff Allen!

Geoff Allen Artist Demo recap - March 17th, 2025

Geoff Allen gave a fantastic demo on his approach to watercolors. It was very educational to see the stages of his technique. Starting with a loose pencil sketch, Geoff layed in a series of light washes and color accents. He then let this dry during a break and a little bit use of a hairdryer. Then after a break he put down darker passages of color defining the lights and shadows of the composition. Washes, splatters, scoring and scraping, different brushes for different effects like a splayed and irregular brush for things like foliage, or very fine liner brushes for fine tune shapes and details

The Rancho Sante Fe Art Guild at the Spanish Village

We had our reception at Gallery 21 in Spanish Village. A strong attendance was had from tourists, visitors, and families of artists. The crowd was thick between the reception hours of 2:00 to 4:00. See pictures here.

The show will be up until April 7. Please remember that you must get your art on April 7. We can’t leave any art there on April 7.

A group of us will be looking for new opportunities in the future. This show is just beautiful. Please come by and see it.
