CURRENT COLLECTION More like a paintbrush, than a computer; more of a tool, than a machine, is how the artist describes her camera.. Jo Ann Ginepras images, though photographically created, are more often perceived as being painted. The work is based on her perception of a quality of light either big, bold, and beautiful in some images, or soft and subtle in others. Through longer exposures, strong ambient light, film choice and time of day she transforms the natural designs she finds into the saturated compositions you see. There is a visual defiance that unites this collection of images.
HISTORY Jo Ann has been making photographic images since the 1970s. Her current work evolved from commercial roots: portraiture, fashion, advertising, working in both black and white and color, from 35mm to 8x10 cameras. The change from faces to places occurred in the 1990s. Color images began to dominate. The current collection includes images from the Southwest, Northeast, Sierras, Rockies, Alaska and Hawaii, with an emerging collection of European locations.
ABOUT THE PRINTS All prints exhibited are archivally overmatted with 100% cotton rag board and are signed and numbered in limited edition by the artist. Photographs are printed on the highest quality artistic papers.
